Native Plants of Scotland

Earlier this week, I worked with some wild-collected seedlings of native plants from Scotland. The garden has a strong plant conservation focus. Many of the gardeners participate in plant collection trips around the world, travelling to Kyrgyzstan, China, the US and many other places!
Next to the rock garden a bed is being developed which will display plants native to Scotland. Seeds were collected from all over the country, and I helped with transplanting some of the seedlings. Some of the plants included Knautia arvensis, Centaurea scabiosa, and Oxytropis halleri.

Newly transplanted seedlings soaking up water in a tray. The soil is covered with a layer of grit to keep soil from splashing out during watering and discourage weeds.

Bed that will showcase plants native to Scotland.
